We all knew and loved her at Thelma on “Good Times,” the sassy, pretty object of many a teen fantasy during the show’s five-year run in the late 70’s. But BerNadette Stanis has moved on, writing a memoir and continuing to act.

The Brooklyn-born actress turns 60 this year, but that’s not slowing her down at all. Stanis is starring in “Behind the Pulpit,” a gospel play about a pastor who’s responsibilities to his church are distracting him from his responsibilities to his own family.

Stanis plays the pastor’s wife and Terrell Phillips, formerly of the R&B group BlackStreet, is the misguided pastor. “My character, Deborah, has a lot of money and she is supporting the church, but the people in the church don’t pay her a lot of mind and they aren’t very appreciative of her work,” Stanis told “Sister 2 Sister.”

“She has a son who she is very protective of and her husband doesn’t approve of him at all. [He] neglects us to take care of his church family.” “Behind the Pulpit,” which tours through March, also stars Paul Porter and comedian/actor Li’l JJ.
