Indy Remembers Dr. King and Robert Kennedy

Today marks the 45th anniversary of the day Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. was gunned down in Memphis. That same night Robert Kennedy delivered news of Dr. King’s death from Indianapolis.

Tonight, Indianapolis will hold a Kennedy/King Commemoration. Georgia Congressman John Lewis, who was on the front lines with Dr. King, will be speaking, along with Governor Mike Pence,  and those present in the park when Robert Kennedy announced the death of Dr. King.

It begins at 5pm. Martin Luther King Park is 17th and College.

 

South side Explosion Suspect Tried to Hire “Hit Man”

One of the suspects charged in the deadly south side explosion was in court yesterday,  answering to a charge he tried to have a witness killed from behind bars.

Mark Leonard, who already faces charges of murder and arson, was formally charged with conspiracy to commit murder, after he offered to pay an undercover federal agent posing as a hit man $20,000 to kill a key witness, in the Deadly Blast. Someone who Leonard called a good friend an express several details about the blast with.

He also offered an additional $5,000 if the “hit man” made it look like a suicide.

 

Missing 91-Year-Old Man  Found Safe

The 91-year-old man who had been missing since February has been found safe.

Oliver Turner was located after a bank teller in Anderson recognized his picture from the news.

Detectives said they belie year old Turner, who shows symptoms of dementia and uses an oxygen tank was with his live-in caretaker, Annette Polk, 48, who might have been taking advantage of him.

Police said Turner was in the custody of Adult Protective Services in good condition.

 

Body Found Overnight with Duct Tape Over Mouth

New This Morning, A body was found overnight in an east side Indianapolis home with duct tape on the victim’s mouth.

Metro Police Department officers said they got a tip just after midnight about a possible suicide at a home in the 1300 block of Linden Street.

When police arrived, they found a deceased white man in his 20s. Homicide detectives did not say how the man died, only that an autopsy was scheduled to be completed at a later time.
