Pastors and church leaders from across America and around the world convened at T.D. Jakes’ 2013 International Pastors and Leadership Conference which began on Thursday and will end this afternoon on Saturday. The conference featured general sessions and numerous “specialized breakout sessions that address the infrastructure needs of the church from operational to effective music ministries to specialized senior-pastors-only workshops and other forums that meet the holistic needs of churches of virtually any size.” The event also gives pastors the opportunity to network with one another.

On Thursday afternoon, Bishop T.D. Jakes kicked things off by delivering a message titled “The Ten Commandments of Leadership”. Backed by Scripture, he gave ten laws that leaders should follow in dealing with people and situations. Those ten commandments are:

1. Thou shalt not lead beyond your own exposure.

2. Thou shalt not choose your leadership team like you choose your friends.

3. Thou shalt not reward nepotism.

4. Thou shalt not avoid confrontation.

5. Thou shalt not over-promise and under-deliver.

6. Thou shalt clearly articulate expectations.

7. Thou shalt not mistake regimentation for revelation.

8. Thou shalt update the people in your circles.

9. Thou shalt not lead without listening.

10. Thou shalt cross-pollinate.

Later, on Thursday evening, Dr. John Maxwell took to the stage as the keynote speaker. He taught about the great cloud of witnesses, and what Biblical characters such as Noah, Job, Joseph, Rebekah, David, and Esther would share with us if they were here to give us advice today.
