As we get older, taking supplements are essential in our aging process.  If you’re like me, I don’t like taking pills if I don’t have to but I know taking a multi-vitamin is good for me.

During a recent conversation with other health conscious people, I obtained various referrals of which supplements I should add into my regimen.  The one suggestion that peaked my interest was omega-3 fish oil.  I know individuals who give fish oil praises and have amazing testimonials about how its helped them.

Fish Oil is derived from the tissues of oily fish. This supplement is highly recommended because it contains omega-3 fatty acids and other acids that reduces inflammation throughout the body.  We commonly hear about the benefits of eating fish like salmon, mackerel, albacore tuna, flounder and lake trout because they are high in Omega-3’s.  However, there’s also being reports from the FDA that recommend limiting your amount of consumption of those fish due to high levels of toxic contaminants such as mercury and PCB’s.

Despite all of that, studies have shown remarkable evidence that fish oil has  acted as a mood stabilizer and helpful for individuals with clinical depression and bipolar disorder.  More studies are continually being released about the benefits of fish oil for various conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and mental health.   The recommended type of fish oil tablets suggested to purchase are 600mg of the DHA Omega-3 Fish Oil pills. This supplement is the preferred type because the source is coming from the fish’s body and not the liver.  The other supplements that the source is from the fish’s liver and or  liver products contain omega-3 but have an active form of Vitamin A.  High levels of Vitamin A can be dangerous.  Research is the key before adding it into your daily routine but many people highly recommend this supplement and believe it is a great added supplement to your body.

Do you take Omega-3 fish oil now?  If so, how has it benefited your body?  We’d love to hear from you.
