Storms Knock Out Power to Thousands in Central Indiana

Thousands of Hoosiers are without power This Morning after overnight severe weather downed trees and power lines throughout central Indiana. IPL and Duke Energy crews handled more than 14,000 power outages  just before 6 a.m. A transformer fire was reported on 33rd Street just before 4 a.m. on the city’s west side, cutting power to thousands of residents in the area.

The WTLC Newsroom has learned that as of 9:30am, 7,862 Duke Energy customers are still without power, and IPL was reporting 2,929 customers affected by outages, with about half of them on The City’s South Side.To report outages in your area, contact IPL at 317-261-8111 or Duke Energy at 1-800-343-3525.

 

Missing Teen Found with Disabilities Found Safe

The Missing Teen with Mental Disabilities Indianapolis police were searching Monday was located at about 4 yesterday afternoon.

18 year old Alexis Ricard, who family members said functions at the level of a 12-year-old, was last seen May 13 just before 8 p.m. Ricard had been over at a friend’s housel…and the friend called Ricard’s family Monday afternoon to let them know. Police believe she crawled out of her bedroom window after an argument with her mother.

 

Matches May Have Caused Fire That Killed 2 Children

Kids playing with matches might have sparked the fire that killed two children in a Cumberland condo Monday morning. The fire broke out just after 9 a.m. at the Raintree Commons Condominiums near Washington Street and German Church Road.

Two children were confirmed dead at the scene. The children’s mother, 39 year old Stephanie Eppert, was hospitalized in critical condition. Neighbors said a Stephanie Eppert and her four children, three of whom are autistic, lived in the condo.

Witnesses tried to help the victims get out of the burning home, but the flames were too intense. And Though playing with matches is the suspected cause of the blaze, officials are still investigating.
