Firefighter Injured In Early Morning House Fire

One firefighter was hurt battling a house fire near downtown early this morning.

The fire was reported at a vacant house just before 3:30 a.m. a few blocks east of 16th Street and College Avenue.

The Fire Department said the flames were so intense, firefighters had to use a defensive attack to douse the flames.

The injured firefighter was rushed to the IU Methodist Hospital in good condition.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

 

1 Person Shot In Meridian Hills Area

RTV6 reports, one person was shot in an attempted robbery early Friday on the city’s north side.

IMPD said the shooting happened just after 6:30 a.m. near 73rd Street and Spring Mill Road in the Meridian Hills area.

Police said the person who was shot hospitalized in good condition.

Detectives set up a perimeter in the area in an attempt to track down the shooter.

 

John Mellencamp’s Sons Arrested For Beating Man

John Mellencamp’s two teenage sons are facing charges for allegedly beating a man so severely that he had facial fractures.  Prosecutors say on July 29th, Speck Mellencamp started a fight with Alexander Bucy because he thought Bucy had hit him earlier that evening.  Hud Mellencamp and another man joined in on the fight and reportedly “punched, kicked and stomped” on Bucy.

 

Indy Gears Up For GenCon

Gamers from all 50 states and from 12 different countries are downtown for Gen Con.  More than 42-thousand people attended last year’s convention and organizers say they’ll likely exceed that this year.  The four-day event is expected to generate 47-million-dollars for the city, making it Indy’s number one convention in terms of money.
