The 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards are rapidly approaching, with the coveted trophies to be awarded to hundreds of hopefuls on Sunday, January 26, 2014, live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Almost synonymous with music’s highest honor is the masterfully crafted GRAMMY Moment—that ever-captivating experience that pulls together heavy-hitters in music for an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime live performance.

We thought it would be cool to look back over the years and name the 5 most memorable and iconic GRAMMY Moments in gospel music. See if you remember these…

5. The 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards (2012)

Kim Burrell, Le’Andria Johnson, Trin-i-tee 5:7 and Kelly Price offered up a glitzy “Ladies of Gospel” performance of the Clark Sisters’ hit, “Livin’,” during the show’s annual pre-telecast. Just moments later, Le’Andria Johnson won her first GRAMMY for Best Gospel/CCM Performance for her hit single, “Jesus.”

4. The 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards (2008)

Aretha Franklin, BeBe Winans, The Clark Sisters, Trin-i-tee 5:7, Israel & New Breed and the Madison Bumblebees took to the main stage of the GRAMMY Awards, performing in a segment saluting gospel music. It was a rousing medley of hits and standards including, “Never Gonna Break My Faith,” “You Brought the Sunshine,” “With Long Life” and “Old Landmark.”

3. 38th Annual GRAMMY Awards (1996)

After Whitney Houston and CeCe Winans performed their hit single, “Count On Me,” from the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack, the “First Lady of Gospel,” Shirley Caesar, joined them on the GRAMMY stage for a show-stopping performance of “Heaven.” The Spirit was moving before the song could even get started, so you kinda knew it was going to be a performance for the books!
