indpls monthlyWP_20140218_001They are called city or state magazines.  General interest magazines with names like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, Atlanta, Texas Monthly that feature articles about the city/region and state designed to appeal to a wide range of readers.  For more than three decades, Indianapolis has had its own city magazine Indianapolis Monthly.  That publication, like other media, faces the challenge of diversity both of those who work and write for the magazine and diversity in the magazine’s pages so the publication reflects the racial diversity of the community.  The Editor of Indianapolis Monthly, Amanda Heckert,  appeared on Afternoons with Amos to talk about the magazine, their efforts at diversity and to make an appeal for interested writers to submit potential story ideas to be considered for the magazine.  Click the Arrow to Hear Amos’ Interview with Indianapolis Monthly Editor Amanda Heckert.
