IMPD detectives have arrested Gary Shinnamon II, 30, of Indianapolis. They’ve preliminarily charged Shinnamon with Failure to Stop at an Accident Resulting in Death, which is a Class C Felony, and two counts of Driving While License Suspended, Class C and D Felonies. The suspect turned himself into detectives at his attorney’s office on Thursday.
Witnesses at the scene, as well as the 7-month-old victim’s father, played a critical role in helping hit-and-run detectives identify the driver that allegedly rear-ended the family’s compact car. The baby was ejected from the vehicle during the accident and later died at Riley Children’s Hospital at I.U. Health.
Detectives also received a number of tips from the community that provided helpful information which led to Shinnamon’s arrest.
The suspect was transported to the Arrestee Processing Center for processing and is currently awaiting a final charging decision by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
