jonathan-Mcreynolds-fatherlessness

Through the years, Chicago has been called our nation’s “Murder Capital,” with a 2012 total of more than 500

homicides, surpassing New York City’s numbers. But particularly high crime rates in urban communities, often

linked to fatherlessness, can be averted through mentoring, so say experts.

One such success story is Dove and Stellar Award-nominated gospel recording artist, Jonathan McReynolds,

24, who is speaking out about growing up without a father in Chi-Town, but having mentors to help guide his

path.

“I had a lot of great male figures that God planted in my life,” McReynolds said in a recent interview with CBN

from his home church, New Original Church of God in Christ. ”I was still able to look up to my pastor and some

godfathers and some uncles as that father, together collectively.”

Behind his sultry voice, beautifully honest songs and musical skill, the “I Love You” singer’s story is not unlike

millions of other black boys.
