Some 8,000 librarians, board members and staff of the nation’s public libraries are meeting in Indianapolis at the annual convention of the Public Library Association (PLA). A division of the American Library Association, the PLA represents the public library systems in cities large and small throughout the country. The issues Indianapolis’ own Public Library system faces, – increasing use of technology, diversity, financial pressures, reduced revenues to local governments and libraries, the reduced role of printed books and magazines – are issues every public library faces.
