Indianapolis Metro Police say a police chase this Monday morning has ended in a serious crash on the city’s southeast side.

Police were in hot pursuit of a suspect after a theft at the Beech Grove Walmart store on South Emerson Avenue. Police say they terminated the pursuit just before this three-vehicle crash happened in the area of South State Avenue and Prospect Street. This happened shortly before 8:30 a.m. and has closed another intersection on the south side during today’s rainy morning rush. The intersection of State Avenue and Prospect is now closed while emergency personnel are working this crash scene. Avoid the area to give them a break.

Earlier, also on the south side, a female pedestrian was struck and killed in the area of Thompson Road and Madison Avenue. The victim was walking in the street, dressed in dark clothing when she was hit by a white van. The driver likely did not see the victim according to media reports. Police haven’t released the victim’s name. Alcohol is not likely a factor in this crash.  The separate investigations for both of these incidents are on-going.
