The Supreme Court of the United States is rejecting the latest challenge to the Affordable Care Act, upholding the nation’s health care law, and helping to continue the legacy of a president who wanted to bring positive change to Americans.
At the heart of this challenge was the subsidies that many insured take advantage of to lower the premiums on their health insurance plans which allow them to pay the bill. Challengers said the subsidies were only available to people who bought their coverage through exchanges in states where those exchanges were offered. The court upheld the healthcare law on a vote of 6-3. Consumers tax credits and subsidies will remain in place.
