Kirk Franklin is losing his religion and believes it’s his “job” to help you lose yours.

Though the GRAMMY® Award-winning recording artist is still very much a Christian, his new album, Losing My Religion, puts a line of demarcation between religion and relationship.

“In the beginning religion created a mask, for generations church was where we went to go hide … Rules without relationship is empty inside,” he said in an Instagram message to his fans, where he also revealed the album cover.

“There’s room at the cross for everyone even me,” continued Franklin. “Religion is a prison, but truth sets us free.”

The 45-year-old, who often rails against the church’s focus on rigid rules and regulations and gravitates toward a doctrine of freedom through the love of Christ, has long been open about his gripes against the institutional church.
