After a phenomenal year of global ministry in 2015 and exhaustive planning for a “legendary” 2016, Dr. E. Dewey Smith has been blessed to close this year out in an amazing fashion!

Harvard University Professor, Dr. Marla Frederick, has written a new book entitled, “Colored Television”, and included Dr. Smith in a significant way. Dr. Frederick, a Spelman College and Duke University graduate, is a Cultural Anthropologist and is a part of the African-American Studies and Religious Department at Harvard University. She is also a tenured Professor at Harvard.

Dr. Frederick rise in academia was highlighted by her classic work, “Between Sundays”, which became a staple and priority reading in most seminaries and Theological institutions around the world. Her latest book, “Colored Television”, released last week by Stanford University Press and now available on Amazon.com and ITunes, examines the role that African-American preachers and viewers have “changed the landscape of American religious broadcasting in recent decades”. Dr. Frederick also shows the role that women have played in both producers and consumers of religious content and the subsequent effects on broadcasting.

Dr. Frederick chronicles the success of American “Televangelism” over the past decades and its effect on the globe, while using this ethnography to concentrate on the Caribbean and Jamaica. This book explains why this genre of broadcasting has had such a powerful impact around the world.
