No Mean City is an initiative to re brand Indy’s neighborhoods and help the city grow.  It’s meant to showcase the culture that has spread throughout the city in hopes of bringing more visitors and residents to Indy.

If you log onto nomeancity.com, you will find a collection of videos, articles, and quizzes that focus on different areas and activities in Indianapolis.  The stories featured on the website give insight into what it means to call Indy home.

You may be thinking the phrase “no mean city” sounds familiar.  In 1897, President Benjamin Harrison, who was a long time resident of Indianapolis, called Indy “no mean city.”  The phrase it’s self brings to light the welcoming feeling many out-of-towners feel when they visit Indy for the first time.

This project captures the love and culture of Indy’s residents.  Check out the video below of Naptown native Tony Styxx, who is a spoken word poet and hip hop artist, as he gives his account of what it means to be a resident of “no mean city.”
