On Thursday night, after 15 seasons, “American Idol” will air its final episode. Or will it?

Simon Fuller, who created the “Idol” format in 2001, is already re-envisioning what the next generation of the reality show franchise will look like, telling The Hollywood Reporter that “‘Idol’ will certainly be coming back for sure.”

“Idol” has aired on Fox since 2002, and has undergone various judging panel changes (none of its original judges, Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson remain) and format tweaks. Fuller tells THR that the show ending its run on Fox allows him to truly re-think the format for the first time and evolve it for the streaming generation.
