The eyes of the nation are on Indiana today…

Primary voters here in this state are the most powerful people in presidential politics today. With the polls open across our Hoosier State, this could be Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s last chance to slow the momentum of Republican front-runner Donald Trump. Trump holds a big lead in public opinion polls a week after sweeping five Northeastern primaries. Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton likes her chances today after beating Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in four of last week’s five races. Sanders, Cruz and Trump all held rallies across Indianapolis Monday evening.

Longer lines than usual are expected at the polls here in the city of Indianapolis and elsewhere across the state today, but don’t let that be a deterrent.  Before you go to your polling place, make sure you have a photo ID. If you need one, the BMV will be open until 6 p.m. this evening.  If you don’t know where you’re polling place is, you can find out at IndianaVoters.com. The polls are open until 6 p.m. If you experience any irregularities at your polling site, report them. Call 1-866-IN1-VOTE (1-866-461-8683). Staffers will answer until 7 p.m. EDT tonight and again beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

Ted Cruz is hoping Indiana keeps him in the Republican race for the White House, and will reportedly be on hand to see if it does. Cruz’s camp confirmed on Monday, Cruz will return to Indy later this evening for an election night party downtown at Crown Plaza Hotel. His running mate Carly Fiorina and his wife were together this morning making the rounds visiting with potential voters. Cruz trails front-runner Donald Trump here in  Indiana as he continues to slow Trump’s momentum before the GOP Convention this Summer.  Indiana is a winner-take-all delegates state for the GOP. They have 57 delegates up for grabs while the Democrats—Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders will go after 92 delegates in their proportional race. Remember local races are in-play as well, and carry significant weight.

Indy Metro Police say the shooting death of a ten-year-old boy was “likely accidental.” Noah Sarver was found inside his house near Vermont and Gale streets Sunday evening. Police say Sarver had been playing with his nine-year-old cousin outside just minutes before the shooting.  Investigators are still trying to determine where the gun came from.

Former Indianapolis Fire Chief Keith Smith has died. Officials say he passed away Monday at the age of 72 after a long illness. Smith spent 37 years with the department and served as its chief from 1992 to 2002. He served the Westfield and Carmel departments after leaving Indianapolis.

The Tony Awards nominations have been announced and the Broadway hit “Hamilton” leads the way. The hip hop musical about U.S. founding father and Treasury Secretary, Alexander Hamilton, picked up a record-setting 16 nods, including Best Musical. Tony Award winner James Corden will host the 70th annual awards show on Sunday, June 12. It will air live on CBS.

Sinead O’Connor is blaming former late-night talk show host Arsenio Hall for giving drugs to the late-music icon Prince. The Irish singer, who sang one of Prince’s songs “Nothing Compares 2 U”, posted a rant on her Facebook page saying the DEA should be looking into Hall and accusing him of supplying the pop star and others with drugs for years. Entertainment website “TMZ” reports that a representative for Hall called O’Connor’s claims “absolutely false, ridiculous and absurd.” People magazine also says Hall denies the claim.

In Sports…

Pacers President Larry Byrd says he isn’t sure if he’ll bring back coach Frank Vogel for a seventh season with the team. Byrd told The Indianapolis Star, he wants the team to score more points, but he hasn’t decided the best way to achieve that. Byrd says a decision will be made after a meeting with Pacers owner Herb Simon, but a date hasn’t been set.

The Indianapolis Colts have released center Khaled Holmes after three seasons with the team. The decision comes just days after the Colts selected Alabama center Ryan Kelly in the first round of the NFL draft in Chicago. Holmes started nine games during his three years with Indy, but failed to establish himself as a long-term solution at the position.

Indianapolis Weather…

Rainy on this election morning. Overcast skies this afternoon. The High: 64 degrees.
