Today is the day that the full City-County Council will vote on whether the 100 block of Saint Joseph Street in downtown Indianapolis gets a radio-themed name makeover. It could become “Amos Brown Way” in honor of our late colleague—Amos Brown, a local legendary radio broadcaster and community activist who worked for decades here at the stations of WTLC, Hoosier Radio & TV and Radio One. A City Council committee voted unanimously on April 28 to honor Brown. In addition to his broadcasting duties, Brown served as a columnist for The Indianapolis Recorder newspaper. The 100 block of St. Joseph Street was chosen because it’s the location of Radio One-Indianapolis, the radio group where Brown broadcast his popular Afternoons With Amos talk show weekdays on AM-1310 “The Light.” Brown passed away after suffering a sudden heart attack last November. An Indianapolis City-County Councilor is holding a Town Hall meeting on Tuesday to discuss the vision for District 1 on the city’s far northwest side. Councilor Leroy Robinson’s meeting will address public safety, infrastructure, mass transit, and economic development and will feature Mayor Joe Hogsett and other City officials. Those officials will be on hand to interact with attendees. Robinson’s Town Hall event begins at 6:00 p.m.at the Fay Biccard Glick Neighborhood Center at Crooked Creek at 2990 West 71st Street. Police arrested two men early Monday morning after a man who’d been dropped off at Putnam County Hospital late Sunday night died from gunshot wounds. According to WTHR-TV, Markus Yeanay, 18, has been charged with murder and Stefon Woods, 21, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. The victim is 33-year-old Mario Edwards. All of the men are from Columbus, Ohio and were passing through Central Indiana on their way to Missouri. Indiana State Police, say this incident stemmed from a dispute that happened inside their car. It’s there, that shots were fired.
Indy Metro Police say they’re looking for witnesses in a deadly shooting on the city’s northeast side. It happened last night about 8:30 p.m. They found the victim inside a van in a gas station parking lot. IMPD investigators aren’t saying anything about a suspect or a possible motive at this time.
Indy Metro Police are also following up on a recent case of a body discovered in the White River. They say the man they found in the river last week likely died somewhere else and was dumped there. IMPD officers identified the man as Shane Watford over the weekend. Investigators say it looks like he was shot, then dumped into the water. They’re treating the case as a murder investigation.
A former University of Notre Dame running back is brain dead after a deadly shooting in Florida. Police in West Palm Beach pronounced Gregory Bryant brain dead on Sunday. Investigators say someone shot him in the head over the weekend. Bryant started his college football career here in Indiana at Notre Dame, but transferred to a junior college last year.
A former IMPD officer is collecting his pension while he waits to face drug charges. According to WRTV-TV, Nikolas Layton is collecting $337 per month. Layton, who is the son of Marion County Sheriff John Layton, is facing charges for selling cocaine. He resigned from the city’s police department shortly after his arrest in January. Pension managers say the ten-year former veteran of the force will collect his pension even if convicted. Layton’s trial is scheduled for early next month.

A new police chief is on the job today in Ferguson, Missouri. Delrish Moss is being sworn in as the St. Louis suburb’s first African American police chief. Experts say Moss will need to bring the community together after the fallout over the police shooting death of Michael Brown.
A civil trial over the deadly 2012 Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting gets underway today. Twenty-seven families are suing Cinemark, the company that owns the Century 16 Theater in Aurora, for lack of proper security measures.
North Carolina is facing a 5 p.m. deadline today over its so-called “bathroom law.” The U.S. Justice Department has given the state until the close of business to fix what authorities call violations of federal sex discrimination protections. The law enacted six weeks ago bans people from using public restrooms that don’t correspond with the gender on their birth certificates.
House Speaker Paul Ryan is facing the wrath of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Palin told CNN’s “State of the Union” she’s supporting Ryan’s opponent in his run to be re-elected to the House from Wisconsin. The failed 2008 vice presidential candidate said Ryan’s refusal to endorse the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump is disrespectful to the will of the people. Palin said it would take a miracle for Ryan to continue his political career after not supporting Trump.
Donald Trump says he’d like to see the Republican Party unified, but it’s not completely necessary to win the presidential nomination. Appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” Trump discussed his rift with House Speaker Paul Ryan and said he’s looking forward to their meeting this week with party unification as a talking point. However, Trump says he’s different than anyone else who has run for office and doesn’t believe the party has to be unified in the traditional sense.
The 2016 primary season rolls on with contests in West Virginia and Nebraska. Likely Republican nominee Trump will get closer to the 1,237 delegates he needs to lock things down after last week’s withdrawals by rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich after the Primary, here in Indiana. Democrats and Republicans vote in West Virginia while the Nebraska primary is a GOP-only contest tomorrow.

Pacers forward Paul George sent a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to former head coach Frank Vogel Sunday on Instagram. The picture showed George listening intently to Vogel during a game, and George called him ”one of the most influential men in my life.” Vogel was fired from the team last Thursday.
NBA sources are saying Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will be named the league’s MVP this week for the second year in a row. Curry is hoping to become the first unanimous choice for MVP the NBA has ever seen. Popular players like Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James each fell one vote short. The 28-year-old Curry is the first player in NBA history to average 30 points in less than 35 minutes per game throughout a full season. The Warriors are facing off against the Trailblazers for Game Four of their Western Conference semifinal series tonight in Portland.
The 2016 chase for the Triple Crown began on Saturday in Louisville at the Kentucky Derby with a win by favored horse Nyquist. The colt took the First Jewel of the Triple Crown and ran his career record to 8-and-0 with a solid showing at Churchill Downs during the race. Nyquist is slated to arrive at Pimlico in Baltimore this afternoon at Old Hilltop, well in advance of the 141st running of the Preakness on May 21. His handlers will likely put him through some light workouts between now and then, saying he’s “super fit.”

You may want to enjoy this week’s cool temperatures and rain showers. Forecasters say Indianapolis could be in-line for a hot, dry summer. The National Weather Service says weather patterns this year look similar to 2012. That summer was one of the city’s hottest.
