Discouragement is a tool Satan uses against us to keep us from being, having and doing all God says
we can.
In order to overcome loss of confidence, enthusiasm and motivation to keep going, you have to know
why you’re struggling in this area and how to combat it with the word of God.
Here are 8 reasons you’re discouraged and how to change that.
1. You’re focused on the wrong thing. You’re looking at your situation, which says you will
never conquer your challenges, instead of looking to the Lord. Psalm 43:5 asks, “Why, my soul,
are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.” When you place your focus and hope in the right place, you’ll be
encouraged.
2. You’re not fighting negative thoughts. When negativity pops in your head, don’t
embrace it. Don’t accept thoughts like: you’ll never thrive; what you’re believing for won’t
happen; you’ll be stuck here forever. Instead of letting the enemy beat you down with toxic, self-
defeating lies, hit back with the word of God. 2 Corinthians 2:5 says, “We demolish arguments
and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive
every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
