We all desire to be loved and respected; but many times, rather than build each other up, we’ll tear one another down. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

Here’s what the Bible says our attitude should be towards those around us:

Romans 12:15 (NIV)- “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” When someone gets a good break or runs into a golden opportunity, celebrate with them! And when someone is going through a tough time, be sympathetic. As Christians, we are to stand together with people through the good times and the bad.

Philippians 2:3 (ESV)- “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” We live to serve God through serving others. Use whatever the Lord has given you to bless someone else—be it money, cheerfulness, a learned skill, or an in-born talent.

John 13:35 (NKJV)- “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Show love in all that you do, for whomever you do it. Love those in the church as well as outside of it, for to this we were called.

Luke 6:31 (ESV)- “And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.” You wouldn’t wish for others to write snide comments about you on social media, or disassociate with you the moment they disagreed with your opinion—so don’t treat others in this way. Reflect the positive attitudes you would like to see in those around you.
