On the heels of a deadly weekend in Indianapolis, the law enforcement community worked to support the family of 13-year-old homicide victim Matthew McGee through a prayer vigil hosted by IMPD chaplains. McGee died last month after police say someone shot him in a parking lot near Castleton Square Mall. Monday night, IMPD chaplains, IMPD, Lawrence police, victims assistance coordinators and community members gathered in Explorer Park for the vigil. “Matthew is not a number to us,” IMPD Chief Bryan Roach told McGee’s loved ones. Matthew’s murder is one of at least 126 homicides in Indianapolis so far this year, including six lives lost this past weekend.

People in Las Vegas are answering the call for blood donations in response to Sunday evening’s mass shooting but more will be needed. The Indiana Blood Center is urging all eligible donors to make donation appointments as soon as possible in an effort to meet the emergency needs of patients affected by the most recent tragedy. The Indiana Blood Center has already sent blood to help the victims impacted by the recent hurricanes and often donates during national tragedies such as the one in Las Vegas.
