All Metro-North trains have been suspended in and out of Grand Central Terminal due to a smoky fire beneath a bridge on the Harlem River.

Train service was suspended at 11:45 a.m. Metro-North identified it as the 138th Street lift bridge on the Harlem River.

Television images showed pilings on fire in the Harlem River, with huge plumes of white smoke over the river and East Harlem.

Trains approaching Manhattan and the South Bronx were being held at the nearest station while the fire was being put out.
