Audio Included in Post. Audio©2010 WTLC/Radio One. Daveed Nelson, the originator of “The Last Poets” visited Indianapolis during Black History Month and appeared on Afternoons with Amos.  Daveed was in Indy to appear at the Crispus Attucks Museum and talked with Amos about his career.

Daveed Nelson, (aka Brother Daveed) was the orginator of “The Last Poets”, a groundbreaking group of poets and musicians, who starting in the late 1960’s, created a series of poems and recordings that raised African-American political and social consciousness and helped pave the way for rap and hip-hop.
