GMA Announces 2010 International Award and Radio Stations of the Year

Nashville, TN — The Gospel Music Association (GMA) is pleased to announce the recipients of the International Award and Radio Stations of the Year for 2010.

This year’s GMA International Award is given to Hillsong United. The International Award honors a performer or organization from outside of the U.S. that has made an impact not just in his or her own country, but also in the world at large. The recipient is selected by a special committee of international representative members of the GMA.

Hillsong United is the ministry birthed and anchored in the youth movement of Hillsong Church based in Australia. Hillsong United is about the youth generation encountering God in a way that changes them from the inside out while seeking to give a voice to others. They have worshipped in churches, stadiums and open fields in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas, and through powerful praise and passionate worship, they have seen literally tens of thousands of people connect with Jesus.

The 2010 Radio Stations of the Year are:

Southern Gospel Radio Station of the Year – JOYFM, Winston-Salem, NC

Contemporary Christian Radio Station of the Year – WAYFM Network, Colorado Springs, CO

Gospel Radio Station of the Year – WTLC, Indianapolis, IN

The Radio Stations of the Year awards are presented to those Christian radio stations that meet the highest standards of quality and have the strongest impact on their listening areas. Awards are given to Gospel, Southern Gospel, and Contemporary Christian stations. The recipient in each market category was determined by a panel of judges who based their judgments on community involvement, ratings, broadcast programming and air talent quality, and industry leadership. “On behalf of the entire GMA membership, Board of Directors and staff, I want to extend to Hillsong United, JOYFM, WAYFM and WTLC our heartfelt congratulations for being chosen to receive these awards,” stated Ed Leonard, Chairman of the Board of the GMA. “We are thankful for their invaluable contribution to Gospel music and at the impact they are each making around the world.”

The 2010 International Award and Radio Station of the Year Awards will be presented during the Opening Ceremonies of the GMA Dove Awards on Wednesday April 21st at Nashville’s famed Grand Ole Opry House. Admission to the Opening Ceremonies is free with the purchase of a ticket to the Dove Awards, which can be obtained by going to www.gospelmusic.org.
