The University of Indianapolis has been selected as the practice site for the NFC team in Super Bowl 2012. The City of Indianapolis will host the big game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Currently, UIndy is preparing to break ground on a new Student Athletics and Recreation Center. It’s that new center that will serve as the NFC practice site.

University officials said the center was designed to boost the school’s intramural sports programs, along with fitness activities and athletic training. The project drew interest from the 2012 Super Bowl Host Committee because the designs will meet many NFL specifications. It will require some enhancements, but the university said any extra costs will be paid by the Host Committee.

The Recreation Center will include an air-supported dome, intended for multi-purpose use. UIndy said it will be large enough to house a football field. Construction is scheduled to begin in May and is anticipated to open this fall. The center will be located in the northeast corner of campus, next to other athletic facilities.
