Bishop Neil Ellis to be Inducted in International Walk of Fame

(Nashville, TN) Nassau, N.P. – Consider your footprints imbedded in granite forever. This amazing accolade will be conferred upon Bishop Neil Ellis at the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia later this month.

The much celebrated Walk of Fame was established in 2004 by a group of civic-minded citizens who wanted to leave a chronicle and honor true history makers who have in some way fought in the struggle for equality, justice and empowerment. According to the selection board, Bishop Ellis is a great example of a man whose “success and impressive achievements have impacted the lives of many and influenced the human rights struggle.”

Bishop Ellis says of this distinguished honor that, “God gives each of us an opportunity to live our lives in a way that makes life easier for others. I am humbled by the fact that in the course of doing what I have been called to do others even outside of our country, would not only take note of it but pause to celebrate it”

Each year large groups of international, national and local residents and students visit the historic Walk… a permanent tribute to the many men and women who have walked the extra mile on the long journey to justice.

The walk consists of 2×2 granite square bordered in bronze on all four sides where an impression of a pair of his shoes will be imbedded in granite. The inscription will include Ellis’ name and date of birth.

Previous inductees include: Rev. Martin Luther King, Sr., Rosa Parks, President Lyndon B. Johnson, President Jimmy Carter, President Bill Clinton, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Medgar Evers, Lena Horne, Stevie Wonder, Justice Thurgood Marshall, Sir Sidney Poitier, Harry Belafonte and many others.

This historic induction into the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame is scheduled to be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site in Atlanta.
