Marvin Sapp, Eminem, Judge Mathis earn

NAACP Image Award nomination

Washington, D.C. — Marvin Sapp’s “Here I Am” has been nominated for Outstanding Gospel Album for this year’s NAACP Image Awards. The nomination follows Sapp’s wins at the Stellar Awards, including winning Artist of the Year.

 

The Image Awards is an annual celebration of achievements and performances of people of color in the arts. The show airs at 8 p.m. on March 4 on Fox.

>From the Motor City, “Detroit 1-8-7” has been nominated for Outstanding Drama Series for this year’s NAACP Image Awards.   “1-8-7” faces “Grey’s Anatomy,” “HawthoRNe,” “Law & Order: SVU” and “Treme” in the category. It is the only nomination for the show.

Detroit’s own Judge Greg Mathis also landed a nomination in the Outstanding News/Information category for the syndicated judge show “Judge Mathis.”

Other nominees include Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie,” which is nominated for Outstanding Group, Duo or Collaboration in the musical categories; Smokey Robinson’s “Now and Then” for Outstanding Album; Terry McMillan’s “Getting to Happy” for Outstanding Literary Work – Fiction; and Jay-Z’s “Decoded” (co-authored by Detroit author Dream Hampton) for Outstanding Literary Work – Autobiography/Biography.
