The African-American community of Indianapolis grew strongly during the first decade of the 21st Century according to 2010 Census data just released.  The Black population of Indianapolis/Marion County rose 19.1% to 256,418; an all time high.  In the ten county Indianapolis Metro Area, Black population soared to a record 283,549, up 27.1%.

In Indianapolis itself, Black population rose in every township, except Center.  There Black population declined by 20%.  Black population was stagnant in Washington Township.  The rest of the city/county’s seven other townships saw strong increases in Black population.
