Public Safety Director Dr. Frank Straub came to Afternoon with Amos to explain some new tactics and strategies the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) will be using to reduce crime. Even though crime is down 15%, IMPD is undertaking a “surge” to place more officers on the streets. A controversial part of the strategy is moving officers from the PAL Club and OK programs into working with youth in a new Community Affairs unit.  Straub was joined by Deputy Public Safety Director Rick Hite in talking with Amos and listeners; all of whom were skeptical of the new IMPD changes.
