A two-day celebration for the music legend Walter Hawkins will begin on Tuesday, July 20 with a star-studded musical salute to the gospel great featuring Yolanda Adams, Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin, Bebe Winans and Hawkin’s former wife and protege’ Tramaine Hawkins to name a few.

The homegoing services are on Wednesday, July 21st with Bishop Kenneth Moales of Prayer Tabernacle Church of Love, Inc in Bridgeport, Connecticut will officiate the ceremony.  Both events will take place at the Paramount Theater in Oakland California.

Walter Hawkins meant a lot to not only the gospel community but to the world.  His life exemplified Love through music and serving the Lord his entire life.  A dedicated and dynamic singer, pianist, producer, father, brother, son and pastor, Hawkins gave his all until his last breath on earth.  His ministry was seen and heard  throughout the world and based his headquarters in Oakland, California at the Love Center Ministries where he founded in 1973.

Hawkins understood his purpose and loved being a pastor just as much as  a singer. “Early on I thought my ministry and music were apart from each other.  But now I see they work hand-in-hand” he once said.  “I can go a lot of places with my music that I can’t go as a pastor and vice-versa. The purpose of both is getting the message out to people.  I’ve had some material blessings and it’s okay to have them, but to be blessed with peace of mind and joy in life, that’s when you will be truly fulfilled.”

Pastor Walter Hawkins’ message definitely got out to the people.  Take a look at his musical legacy.
