Amber Campbell, the only African-American from Indianapolis and Indiana competing in the 2012 Olympics in London, miss making the finals in the Hammer Throw by just a half a meter. In the qualifying round, Amber Campbell threw the hammer 69.93 meters, placing 13th. The 12th place finisher, from Poland, threw the hammer 70.48 meters. Amber Campbell, though placed the highest of the three Americans who competed in the womens Olympic Hammer Throw. Jessica Cosby placed 14th and  Amanda Bingson placed 28th. Finals of the event are Friday. The only woman of color in the hammer throw finals is Yipsi Moreno of Cuba.  Last week, Afternoons with Amos talked with Amber about her career, what the hammer throw is all about and the honor of competing in the Olympics. A graduate of Pike High School, and Coastal Carolina University, Amber Campbell is a member of the US Track and Field team and she specializes in the hammer throw.  She is the 2012 US Champion in the sport; a six time US Indoor Champion and 16 time Big South Conference Champion in the hammer throw and the holder of numerous honors in the sport dating back to high school.
