Tuesday the United States Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a landmark case that could define what civil marriage would be in the United States.  The Nine Justices of the Court heard the case of Hollingsworth v. Perry.  This case concerned Proposition 8, a referendum in California that prohibited same sex marriages.  A lower court overturned the referendum and the case was appealed to the full Supreme Court.  Because of the major importance of this case, the Supreme Court took the unusual step of immediate releasing the audio and written transcript of today’s hearing.  (Video of Supreme Court arguments are not allowed).  Below you can hear the full arguments of the case before the Supreme Court.  Speaking for the Plaintiffs (Hollingsworth) are Charles Cooper. Speaking for the Defendants are Theodore Olsen, (a former US Solicitor General) and current US  Solicitor General Donald Verrilli. Click Below to Hear Audio of the Hear. Or Click on Transcript.
