Bishop T.D. Jakes recently hosted a “Google Hangout” in preparation for his 2013 International Pastors and Leadership Conference. During the open discussion, Super Producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, shared how his mainstream platform gives him unique opportunities to witness.
The four-time Grammy Award-winner has worked with: Brandy, Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, Mary Mary, the late Whitney Houston, Britney spears and more.
Early in the music and arts focused chat, Jakes asked Jerkins, “How important has your faith been as you have had an opportunity to touch people that say, somebody like me, behind the pulpit, may not ever get to touch?”
In response, he shared how he had prayed with “The King of Pop” and also, led former multi-platinum selling Bad Boy Records rapper turned pastor, Mason Betha, better known as “Mase,” to Christ.
“We used to bless the walls with oil, anoint the walls with oil before our sessions would start,” Jerkins shared.
“Michael Jackson came into our building one time and he said, ‘I sense a spirit in this building. I sense a sweet spirit in this building.’ And I said, ‘That’s because we just anointed the wall.’ And he said, ‘Well, will you pray for me?’”
Before such occurrences manifested along his career path, Jerkins recalled having a dream as a teenager. “In my dream it was Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson, and James Brown, and I couldn’t understand the dream, and I was preaching to them in my dream, and I asked my father what that meant.”
