Two Indy Neighborhoods Ranked Worst in America

Two Indianapolis neighborhoods are among the 25 most dangerous in the country.  According to a new report by The Neighborhood Scout.com, the area along Meridian and Illinois streets and Capitol Avenue north of 30th Street ranks 17th on the list.

The 20th ranked neighborhood is just the west of I-65 between 30th Street and the White River. Both neighborhoods are under the 46208 zip code.

Now,  If you’re not are familiar with the area, Northside New Era Church, Holy Angels School, Center For Leadership Development and The Children’s Museum are all in the area.

Schools To Try Again After I-STEP Glitch

Schools around the state will give it a second shot today, after ISTEP testing was experiencing technical issues on Monday forced many schools including IPS to suspend testing.  Spokesman John Althardt says students were having problems logging onto the test.

The Department of Education says all schools were having the same issue…The problem was with servers at the testing company.

8-Tons of Prescription Drugs Turned Over To Police

Officials say more than eight-tons of unwanted prescription medications were turned in over the weekend during a state-wide drug take back.

All of the medicines were incinerated on Monday at a local energy-from-waste facility.  Officials say burning the prescription drugs prevents pollution in the state’s waterways and drinking water.

Summer Construction Starting in Central Indiana

INDOT is ramping up two road construction projects in Hamilton County.  Officials say on US 31 in Westfield, crews are preparing for construction of a new exit ramp between 156th and 146th streets.

The bridge over I-69 on 116th Street is also down to one lane while crews finish construction on new entrance ramp there.

Pacers-Hawks Playoff Series Tied

The Pacers’ playoff series with the Atlanta Hawks is now tied at two games apiece.  The Pacers lost Monday night 102-to-91 in Game Four.  Game Five will be Wednesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

85 Year-Old Man Struck and Killed By Car

An 85-year-old man was hit and killed in a neighborhood on Indianapolis’s northeast side last night.

The man was struck in the 7600 block of Hauge Road, north of Lawrence North High School, just before 6 p.m.

The man, who was later identified as John Ferguson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, was not injured. Police said he was cooperating and Alcohol was not believed to a factor in the crash.

Indy Man Turns Himself in Murder Case

An Indianapolis man wanted in a fatal shooting last week has turned himself in after seeing his picture on the news.

22 year old Kenneth Brittain, has been arrested in the shooting death of 21 year old Timothy Denny, Friday night.

Denny and a woman were shot before crashing a pickup truck into an empty building at the Village Plaza Apartments, police said. The woman survived the shooting.

Brittain turned himself in to police Monday and was arrested after questioning.
