Pastor Benny Hinn is loved by millions, and that love sometimes comes along with a series of financial requests. For some reason, the pastor is having financial problems, with a crippling level of debt that is forcing him to ask for even more from those who follow him.
The pastor has told his audience that he needs $2.5 million in donations in short order, and that an anonymous donor will then match the funds to help the pastor find his way out of debt.
“God wants your ministry to be completely out of debt, and I want to plant an anointed seed that will help you take a giant step toward becoming totally debt-free!” The anonymous person told Hinn’s supporters.
The follower continued, tying a financial contribution to Hinn to obeying God’s word. We’re not sure why one has to give money to Hinn in order to obey God’s word, but the push was direct and gave the followers a time limit to their economic grace and contribution.
“God has laid it on my heart to plant a seed of $2.5 million into your ministry, but God only wants me to make this gift if the ministry partners match the amount within 90 days! I feel so strongly that He wants them to be part of the supernatural wealth transfer that is coming to every believer who will obey God’s Word,” the man also said.
Hinn preaches prosperity gospel, connecting contributions to his church to solving your financial problems. The gospel is accepted by some, because Hinn is a charismatic figure. But others find it to be troublesome that struggling people are asked to give their money to a man who doesn’t seem to take no for an answer.
“Imagine not dreading going to the mailbox, no bills piling up on your counter, and no calls from collectors coming to your home. God wants to wipe your debt out! Every bit of it … and in the next 90 days!” Hinn says on his website.
