Twenty-five years ago, at the impetus of community leaders like businessman Tom Binford and encouraged by then Mayor Bill Hudnut, the Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (INHP) was born. During the next quarter century, INHP helped educate and train, so to speak, individuals to be homeowners.  INHP helped to rebuild and create new neighborhoods in older areas of Indianapolis and fostered a generation of stable, responsible homeownersship and homeowners. INHP celebrated their 25th anniversary at their annual community breakfast with keynote speaker Dr. Thomas Burns, Managing Director of Urban Ventures Group. During a 35 year career, Thomas Burns has focused on i urban issues related to neighborhood improvement, affordable housing, education, wort workforce development, arts and culture in urban areas. In an exclusive Afternoons with Amos interview, Amos talked with Thomas Burns about INHP’s successes and homeownership today.  Asked by Amos which cities are doing the best at redeveloping older neighborhoods, Burns not only cited Indianapolis, but lauded Chicago and surprisingly Detroit.  Where Burns said Detroit is getting young African-American professionals to move back into that once troubled city.
