GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio – With the help of the community and a Kool-Aid stand, an 8-year-old boy has reached his goal of $5,000 to help pay for his grandmother’s funeral.

Michael Diamond, 8, came up with the idea when he overheard his parents discussing how to cover the funeral cost, said Teresa Diamond, Michael’s mother, WEWS reported.

Teresa said Michael’s grandmother, Bobbie, lost her battle to cancer on Father’s Day at age 52. Michael and his grandmother were extremely close.

Michael suggested setting up a Kool-Aid stand to help reach the family’s goal of $5,000.

As of Sunday evening, the soon-to-be third grader reached his goal thanks to the thousands of people who showed up to Rockwood Road to buy a cup or two of Kool-Aid.

Michael’s grandmother, Bobbie, was to be laid to rest on Tuesday. Her funeral was scheduled for 10 a.m. at Hayes Temple Church of God in Christ at 3158 E 94th St. in Cleveland.

Donations are being accepted by contacting Michael’s mother Teresa through email teresadiamond@yahoo.com .
