IMPD Officer Injured In Early Morning Police Chase

An IMPD officer was injured in a police chase early this morning.

Police located a man on a motorcycle shortly after 3 a.m. who was suspected of firing shots in a west side neighborhood.

The man tried to flee and crashed his motorcycle into a mailbox near Holt Road and Washington Street.

Police said the man then ran away on foot and stole a car then apparently struck the officer who was chasing him.

That officer was taken to IU Methodist Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.


Driver Flees After Hitting Utility Pole

Police in Hancock County are looking for a driver who crashed into a utility pole and fled the scene.

This crash happened early this morning at U.S. 40 and County Road 525.

Three teenage girls in the car were taken to the hospital with injuries.

Police said they suspect Travis Snyder was driving under the influence, which prompted him to flee the scene of the crash.


Eli-Lilly Freezing Salaries

Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Company is freezing salaries for most employees.

The move will freeze base pay in 2014 to reduce costs.

Officials said the company would also reduce bonuses paid out in 2015 for employee performances.

Lilly is central Indiana’s most prominent private sector company.

The company has about 38,000 employees globally.


Suspicious Package Found Downtown Not A Threat

IMPD says a suspicious backpack found in Military Park had clothes in it.  The bag was spotted Wednesday morning near West and Ohio streets.  The all-clear was given after officers used an x-ray to determine there was nothing dangerous inside.


Health Officials Warn Of Heat Stroke

As temperatures continue to climb, doctors are asking people to be on the lookout for anyone showing signs of heat stroke.  Symptoms include fatigue, nausea, cramps, headaches, excessive thirst, weakness, confusion, dizziness and fainting.  If someone does have heat stroke, experts say you should call for an ambulance first, then move them to an air conditioned place and give them water.
