Ever since Citizens Gas the bought the Indianapolis Water Company, consumers have complained loudly about those combined water and gas bills.  Now the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) has announced that they WILL investigate Citizens Energy Group’s billing practices and procedures.  In a 35 page order, the IURC expressed concern that Citizens Energy “customer payments are being prorated for various utility and non-utility charges in violation of IURC policies and rules. The IURC also said that recent meetings and correspondence with Citizens “have raised concerns with the manner in which Citizens is billing customers of its gas, water and wastewater utilities and with Citizens’ compliance with approved rules, regulations and tariffs”.  In an Exclusive Interview, IURC Executive Director Danielle McGrath talked to Amos and Listeners about the IURC’s investigation of Citizens Energy Group. McGrath also explained the role of the IURC, the types of utilities they regulate and how IURC proceedings are similar to a legal investigation and legal proceedings.  McGrath also told Amos and Listeners how they should approach utility companies when they have disputes.  She also encouraged listeners and consumers to contact the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) to get assistance in working with utility company problems.
