Worrying

Worry sure can get the best of us if we let it, can’t it?

Wooh buddy, I have been there.

On one of “those days,” it was a short text message that got me right.

I had been stressing over numerous things that day. My schedule was a bit overloaded and I had several demands beating at my door at once.

I tried to stay calm, but felt myself getting frazzled and worked up.

Usually, when I get anxious, I can’t get my composure. I mess things up. I forget a lot. Then I drive myself crazy over what I botched and forgot.

Truth is, it becomes this never-ending cycle of worry and stress that leads to nothing good.

After I fired off a message to my husband Kenya saying something to the effect of, “Oh no! I really messed something up and I’m having a fit over it,” shortly thereafter, in his cool, calm and collected way, he replied.

“You haven’t added one cubit to your stature yet,” he wrote.

Instantly, that wild-eyed look and upset scowl turned into the biggest grin, followed by laughter.

Kenya had used the word of God on me to help get my mind right.

The portion of the passage he shared comes from Matthew 6—my favorite chapter on how to handle worry. Verse 27 in the King James Version asks, “Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?”
