Despite fears there will be a decline in black votership this year, polling of early voters shows room for hope. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that African-Americans make up 33.1 percent of early votes cast in Georgia; nearly matching the percentage of early votes when President Obama ran for re-election in 2012.The figures, which were provided by Mark Rountree and Michael Seigle of Landmark Communications, show a decline in Georgia’s white early votes. Meanwhile, in North Carolina, 24 percent of early voters were African-American as of Oct. 30, up from just 17 percent in the 2010 midterms reports Mother Jones. Read more.
Georgia Senate Contender Michelle Nunn Stumps on Steve Harvey’s Show
One of the races to watch is the Senate race in Georgia is the one for the seat Republican Saxby Chambliss is vacating. Democrat Michelle Nunn and Republican David Perdue are in a tight race, and the possibility that the seat could turn blue is in sight. Educator and co-founder of the Capital Preparatory Magnet School Dr. Steve Perry, will soon embark on a new venture with Bishop T.D. Jakes to launch the T.D. Jakes School of Leadership. The school, which will provide a “relevant and compelling” curriculum, was designed for adults who want to grow both professionally and personally. “I couldn’t be more excited,” Perry said during a conference. “We wanted to create an opportunity to give the community open admissions and access to a quality college education.” Read more.
