Actress Beverly Johnson (pictured above) became the latest woman to accuse Bill Cosby of harming her. In an article published by Vanity Fair, Johnson prefaced her story with her doubts about sharing it:

As I thought of going public with what follows, a voice in my head kept whispering, “Black men have enough enemies out there already, they certainly don’t need someone like you, an African American with a familiar face and a famous name, fanning the flames.

She then told Vanity Fair that after landing a gig as a patient in Dr. Huxtable’s office on The Cosby Show, he requested that she come to his New York brownstone to read for the part. Once she got there, things took a turn for the worse. She said that Cosby first asked her to read the part as if she were drunk, despite the fact that her character was pregnant. He then allegedly offered her a cappuccino, which had been drugged. Johnson, realizing what had just happened, told him off before Cosby angrily took her outside and flagged down a cab to take her home.

According to Johnson, she hesitated in telling her story when “the faces of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and countless other brown and black men took residence in my mind.” She said she decided to come forward because she was sick and tired of women being ridiculed and raked over the coals for daring to tell their stories.

Johnson is the latest in a string of female show business figures to accuse the megastar of sexual assault and/or drugging them. Others include actress Michelle Hurd and model Janice Dickinson.
