The director of Selma, Ava DuVernay may have been overlooked for a Best Director nomination at the Academy Awards, but the legendary Oprah Winfrey has new plans to shine the light on the talented filmmaker.

Winfrey is working with DuVernay to create an original series for the OWN network. The series is based on author Natalie Baszile’s novel Queen Sugar, which is about an upscale black family in Los Angeles that moves back to the family’s sugar cane farm in Louisiana. While its unclear on what role Winfrey will play in the show, but it will mark the first time she’s acted on an OWN series.
