Indiana’s Department of Child Services (DCS) might have the most difficult assignment of any agency of state government.  DCS has to protect the welfare of Indiana’s children in the event of abuse and neglect.  In an exclusive Afternoons with Amos interview, the Director of the Division of Department of Child Services, Judge Mary Beth Bonaventura talked with listeners about her agency and helped explain their responsibilities and duties in protecting Hoosier kids.

Judge Bonaventura, the former Lake County Juvenile Court Judge, was appointed two years ago by Gov. Mike Pence.  In the interview, Judge Bonaventura explained what constitutes abuse and neglect in Indiana against children.  She explained the process her agency uses when investigating such complaints.  Always acting, said Bonaventura, in “the best interests of the child”. Listeners brought a wide number of issues to Bonaventura’s attention. Bonaventura also said the proposed two year state budget will have sufficient funds for DCS to have the necessary staff and resources to protect Indiana’s kids.  Click the Media Player to hear the Afternoons with Amos interview with Indiana DCS Head Mary Beth Bonaventura.
