This is what dreams are made of.

President Barack Obama, who isn’t shy about his love for “one of the greatest, not just television shows, but pieces of art in the last couple of decades,” finally got the chance to sit down with The Wire’s creator, David Simon, to talk the war on drugs, policing, and over-incarceration.

In short, you’ll probably really enjoy this conversation. It’s pretty damn interesting.

And no matter if you were an avid watcher of the groundbreaking series when it first aired, or one of the many who caught HBO’s recent marathon, you’ll appreciate this candid conversation about Baltimore’s drug war, accurately depicted in the show, and the current state of said “war.”

“The challenge is folks go into prison at great expense to the state, [and] many times [are] trained to become more hardened criminals while in prison, come out and are basically unemployable and end up looping back in [to prison]” Obama said.

“Nobody incarcerates their population at this level,” Simon replies, frankly.

Check out the interview, which includes Obama fanning out over his favorite character, the impervious Omar Little, above.
