: Debbie Nalls-Long

(This Story Begins At The 1:30 Mark On The PODCAST Media Player) On Easter Sunday afternoon, there was a confrontation between Indianapolis police and Mack Long, aged 36. Long, an ex-felon, who had been without any arrests or convictions since 2005 and free of probation since 2010, was shot and killed by an IMPD Officer.  Witnesses said that Long was running away from police when he was shot. Police told media Long ran was chased by an IMPD officer, caught up with him, ordered him to get on the ground, but Long didn’t reply.  When the IMPD officer saw Long was armed and turned his gun side away from the officer, the officer fired killing Long.  On Afternoons with Amos, Mack Long’s wife Debbie Nalls-Long appeared in a heartfelt, emotional interview on behalf of herself and her family.  They want transparency and all the evidence in this case brought out.  Nalls-Long and the family, along with many in the community, have unanswered and unsettled questions about this case.  In the interview Debbie Nalls-Long revealed that she sat down with Marion County Chief Deputy Coroner Alfarena Ballew and was given a copy of the Coroner’s Report on her husband’s death.  To Nalls-Long the report indicated that the wounds her husband received were consistent with someone running from police.  She also confirmed that Long’s gun was holstered; never drawn.  Nalls-Long acknowledged that her husband had flaws.  That he was a felon.  The gun he carried that afternoon was legally registered to her. She doesn’t understand why her husband had it that day.  She said despite Mack Long’s transgressions with the law, he was never involved in any incidents of violence.  Afternoons with Amos checked Mack Long’s criminal record and found only drug offenses or driving with a suspended licenses.  No offenses of physical or gun violence.  Debbie Nalls-Long wants Marion County Coroner Dr. Frank Lloyd to convene a Coroner’s Inquest to investigate the circumstances of her husband’s death.  She wants the videos taken that night, one from an eyewitness, the other from an IMPD officer’s Body Camera to be released.  And she wants the official police report on the incident released. After three months it hasn’t been. She doesn’t just want justice, but also answers and closure.  She’s got a petition the community can sign.  Click the Link For the Petition: MACK LONG POLICE INVESTIGATION TRANSPARENCY PETITION
