A group of 100 black men in Hartford, Connecticut decided to do make a difference for students heading back to school this year.

The group formed a line outside Martin Luther King Elementary School and greeted every student on their first day of school. The organizers of the welcome event not only aimed to get students pumped up for school, but they also want to change the public’s perception of black men.

Pastor Johnson told A Plus, “In an urban community, people say that black men [aren’t] valued or there aren’t enough black men doing something.”

Well, this group used social media to gather volunteers and smash those stereotypes about black men.

The group hopes to continue making a difference in their community.
