More big names have signed on to join the cast for the highly anticipated A&E remake of ‘Roots.’

Forest Whitaker, Derek Luke, and Anika Noni Rose join Laurence Fishburne, Malachi Kirby, and Rege-Jean Page among others. Whitaker will play Fiddler who was Kunta Kinte’s mentor, Luke will play Silla Ba Dibba, a military trainer and Rose plays Kizzy, Kunta Kinte’s daughter.

The iconic roles of Kunta Kinte and Chicken George will be played by newcomers Malachi Kirby and Rege-Jean Page. Fishburne will portray Alex Haley, the author of the novel Roots: The Saga of an American Family, which the 1977 miniseries was based on.

The A&E project is currently in production in New Orleans and will move to South Africa later in September. Viewers can expect it to air on A&E, the History Channel, and Lifetime sometime next year.
