Did you know the cup of coffee you drink every morning could actually be doing your body good?  In honor of National Coffee Day, here are some health benefits you may not have known coffee provides.  Studies have shown that coffee drinkers are less likely to have Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, type 2 diabetes, liver disease, and heart failure.

There are about 2 calories in one cup of black coffee, but adding sugar and creamer can increase the calorie count tremendously.  Instead of loading up your coffee with sugar, try replacing it with a teaspoon of honey.  Honey does contain more calories than sugar, but it also contains multiple vitamins and minerals that are essential for our bodies.  Honey can also help promote weight loss.

If you suffer from anxiety, high blood pressure, or have an overactive thyroid, you should drink coffee sparingly.  As always, consult your doctor about dietary changes.  You can check out the full list of health benefits here.
